SoFlo Cake and candy expo 2017

Once again SoFlo cake and candy expo was another huge success with even more people attending than the years before.

Can I just say I have been privileged to be a part of this show now for the last 3 years. The first year as a competitor and the last 2 as an instructor and each year Natasha and the girls make the show bigger and better than the previous year. This year there were 45 instructors with some of the most amazing classes, 100 vendors supplying anything and everything you could possibly need for your cake decorating needs and students and visitors from just about every country you could possibly think of.

This years competition was simply stunning! The theme was "Mermaids" and the pieces created were totally amazing.

Congratulations to the winners they were all truly deserving. Our very own Sachiko Winbiel and Cecile Beaud both taking home prizes with their incredible Mermaid pieces and a jaw dropping piece by the ever so talented Benny Rivera. There were a few disqualifications this year also, some of them truly brilliant pieces and even possible winners but once again I cannot tell you all how very important it is to read the rules thoroughly and make sure you ask questions if you have any queries. It is so sad when you can tell how much thought and workmanship goes into a piece but then is disqualified for a minor infraction. However rules are rules so make sure you know them well when entering a competition.

I love shows. they truly give everyone a chance to meet and also to build ever lasting friendships. I have always had the best students as instructor could ask for and I love that out of most classes students become friends and maintain that friendship long after the shows are after. that is what our cake community is truly about. If you have never been to a cake show you really must go to one at some point so as you too can see what I am talking about.
