ACADA international cake show 2017

Well it was a wild wind trip back to Australia for the first ever ACADA international cake show which was held in Brisbane on the 13th-14th of May. I was so excited as it was the first time I had been back to the place I will always call home in 19 years!

Since I started my career 6 years ago, all I had ever dreamed about was maybe actually one day being asked to go back to Australia to teach. When that finally happened I could not have been more happy in my entire life. I took 2 extra weeks off one for before the show and one for after just so as I could catch up with family and friends.

This was the first time ever for the ACADA international cake show and although I think numbers may have been a little less than they had hoped,  I think for a first year show it was good. Shows always continue to grow and get better as long as they learn from mistakes and listen to the people at the show. That includes vendors , instructors, competitors and visitors. I think all shows should have a "how could we do better box" at the front of the show that is completely anonymous so as people can feel free to leave feedback. Shows can only get better when they know the mistakes they have made. This is not just this show but all shows.

The competition pieces at this show were probably some of the cleanest works I have ever seen in a competition that I have attended. Those Aussie's really know how to get their fondant just perfect and all who entered just blew me away. The standard of workmanship and precision to details was just breath taking in every way.

And of course the best part of the show is always meeting new friends and catching up with old ones. I love my cake friends they are simply the best and I could not go a day without them!
